The Storage of Food

I've been working pretty diligently to work our food storage to a recommended 3 months' supply of foods we eat everyday. I was feeling pretty darn good about it!

Yeah, yeah... we shop at Wal-Mart... judge us.

The above is actually a little under-the-stairs storage area that desperately needs some shelving. In the meantime, it's kindof a mess, but I know where everything is.

And this is about 10 pounds of rice, 50 pounds of flour and 20 pounds of sugar.

It seems like a lot of food. So, we took it for a test drive. It's only maybe 6 weeks worth of food. Time to go shopping.

Where did you get the storage containers with the yellow lids? Does it make them 100% sealed? They're cool!

Looking good! And a very good idea to take it for a test drive. What about bread, milk and eggs?

melinda... i have none of those things... besides the means to MAKE the bread. I need to get some powdered eggs and milk from the cannery... we would also like to purchase a chest freezer in the next six months to store extras of the types of things that can be frozen.

Dad says don't buy a chest freezer- buy an upright. Things get lost at the bottom of chest freezers.
