My brother David was an avid knitter. And when he died, he had TONS of books, and yarn and needles that my mother adopted. I went home after having browsed through his books and running my fingers through the yarn. It has been years since I knitted.
So, in what feels like a bizarre tribute to David, I picked up my needles again. I had forgotten everything! Fortunately, KnittingHelp.com has some of the best tutorials for learning to knit that I've come across.
And lo and behold, look what I did!
It's for Miles size, but he loathes it. I'm not sure why since it's 100% wool and still over 90 degrees here on a normal day. So, no action shots. But I did stuff it so you could see the form a little better.
I've also finished my first sock. Working on the mate. They're really nothing to write home about. But I'm having so much fun!

That is adorable. Yay for David inspiring you (in a bizarre sort of way).
I'd like to order a pair of fingerless gloves (preferably with a mitten attachment knitted into the top so that I can flip it on if I want).
in pink stew?
How freaking cute! I must learn to knit.
I wish the one you made me had a black stripe in it :(
How cute!
so cute . . . are you coming to Utah for Christmas? I'm sure Miles will love it then. It's been COLD these last couple of days!
oh how adorable. I love the colors! Awesome job!
A sock!? I too, have been inspired to knit. I just about have the back finished on a little hooded sweater. But a sock!? Now I am truly impressed. To see some of David's knitting go to www.solter.net and follow the links to Davids page. I love the hat, can I order one in Adult size? Maybe maroon with a cream stripe? Love ya.
Hey can you make me one that looks like the one Jayne wears in Firefly?
