So, I have an affliction.
I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring for over 2 months because of this. I can't begin to tell you how much this makes me sad. Apparently, I'm allergic to some metal in my wedding ring. This is just cruel. Imagine the looks I get when I show up pretty much anywhere (library, park, store, school, etc) with 4 young kids and no ring.
So, I ask you. How bad would it be to go get a fake ring from Walmart?
ETA: Good news! There's a jeweler in my ward who says that he will re-dip/re-plate it for $10! I'll be sporting my ring again soon!

My ring hasn't actually fit this century, so I'm not the one to ask about this particular subject.
Girl I got myself (a huge) one from J.C. Penney a little bit back-- let me say, it makes me look very, VERY well loved.
Tell the truth Liss, you're just trying to pick up guys who are cruising for single moms. Speaking of which are you free next Friday ;)
Totally had this problem. I didn't wear a ring for about four months b/c it gave me an itchy rash. Finally, I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide as a last resort. It worked! Being to busy to get my ring cleaned ended up being a really bad thing.
And girl, go get yourself a flashy ring if you want one!
I bought me a killer fake one when I was pg w/Kelly and my finger was too chubby. I say go for it if you want. But also know that it's fairly common for people to not even wear their rings for various reasons as well. Heck, somedays I think I should go w/out so at least someone might assume my haggard and exhausted appearance is because I'm a single mom :)
I had that problem too, and then when I went to put it back on it wouldnt fit anymore. That was four years ago. Ive worn my watch more then I have worn my wedding ring and they were bought at the same time.
I think getting an inexpensive ring is a good idea. Actually, Deland has a $20 ring from Wal-Mart. He lost the original ring from when we first got married, so we just went to the store and got the one he has now. No one knows, and in the end it doesn't really matter. SO, get one of those really cool, big rocks that cost very little... have fun with it! I can't wait to see what you pick out!!!
I used to work at the ZCMI costume jewelry dept when I was in high school. Women came in all the time to buy fake wedding rings. Seriously, do it. It's all the rage. Or was in '94.
I can't wear my ring anymore either- but that's because of fatness. I bought a fakey from Target for $9.00. I don't like the fake looking diamond/CZ ones though- so I got one with fake onyx. Steve says it makes me look like a widow in morning since the 'stone' is black. I like it though (almost more then my wedding ring... and the wedding ring only wins out in sentimental value).
Um, I got one of the super cheap fakies from Walmart when my ring was in getting fixed. I say go for it.
Who's to say you wont be allergic to the metal in the cheap ring though?
I have a signature on one of my emails that says "what other people think of me is none of my business" So if they are looking at you funny because you have 4 kids and no wedding ring, it's their problem, not yours. Sheesh, maybe you had to pawn it to buy diapers or something.
Maybe Matt shouldn't buy rings from the quarter machines anymore....
I like your blog! I've been following it (trying to read up from the start to the present) on Google Reader. Anyway, I just wanted to weigh in on this post.
Firstly, I don't wear a ring (have never worn jewelry, so didn't see the need to start after marriage). People often ask my where my engagement/wedding ring is, which I think is really none of their business. But now I'm in South Korea where most women have rings, but rarely use them. I've been told that they get in the way (have to be removed for dishes or other cleaning related activities) so women usually keep their rings in special places at home and not on their fingers. I love it! I fit right in and not once has my ring-less hand been questioned.
Secondly, my sister's been allergic to metal since she was a kid. My mum would usually coat the backs of her watches in clear nail polish to keep the metal away from her skin. It worked pretty good, as far as I know. Probably not something you want to try with your wedding ring, I guess, but it might be helpful if you have any other items with metal on them that start giving you problems.
