I've hemmed and hawed and agonized over this for months, but I've come to the decision to no longer do photography as a business. There are a lot of reasons behind it, but basically, my family is my most important obligation. And I was hating the time I was spending away from them.
I still love photography and I still intend to take pictures. If you are a client that has a Better School Picture Day photo shoot scheduled, we are still on. If, you're just dying without my photography services (ha!), I may be persuaded to take on a photoshoot once in a while. But I'll be pulling down my website in the next couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone who supported, encouraged and hired me to capture their family.

Alissa I have to say I am sad for you, but excited for you also. I think you are so wise in so much that you do. One thing I have loved about moving is I don't have the clientelle I had built up and it is nice to not be pulled in every direction..I am much more balanced and being the Mom I want to be. I know that had to be a hard decision, but I think you are wise to do what is best for you family. ((hugs)) Good luck, and if I ever make it there.. I will beg you for pics. :)
Since you didn't have a Utah branch anyway, I guess I won't be TOO sad.
I can imagine this must be a bittersweet change for you. I hope everything goes smoothly.
Just wanted to say hi. Your little family is so beautiful.
That was probably not an easy decision to make. I still love your photography skills so I hope to still see lots of pics!
I'm sad, but I totally understand and respect you for it. You have an amazing talent, and I enjoy seeing your pictures here on your blog and on my walls :)
I've had many of the same thoughts and totally know where you're coming from on this.
I'm sure you'll never regret it. There's plenty of time for photography when your kids are up and out (at least that's what I hear).
I'm happy for you Alissa, I'm sure that wasn't any easy decision to make. Did you count me in for the school pics?
I'm sad too...but now I understand why you kept blowing me off for a trip to Utah for a monster photo session ;) I think you made a wise decision and will enjoy more "free" time.
...so proud of you. And we still get to see your photojournaling of your beautiful family. Brava, Friend, Brava.
You are such an awesome person. Family first and family forever.
I've been thinking of doing the same. Bill and I are actually working on a project right now in which I really could work from home instead of going out and shooting so I might be following suit shortly....here's to hoping.
I know I'll still be seeing your images, so congrats on your decision, my dear.
that is sad news...I have wanted you to take photos of my fam for a while now. You snooze you lose I guess!
Alissa, good luck in your new change. I know the feeling...though I have never really walked in your shoes. I have "hemmed and hawed" about actually starting a business. Up until now, it's been mostly close friends and word of mouth. Now that we're in England, I'm giving it the big go...and I'm scared. I admire your courage in choosing to be a mother first and a photographer second. You'll always be my photography hero, and I'm sure I'll keep blog stalking you to see how to improve my own pictures. I love your work and hope one day to be as talented as you!
