What's Going Down

peeking!

Playing with light in our living room this afternoon. We have almost a whole wall of sliding glass doors... gets some great light in there. I was really working on getting my exposure spot on... didn't really happen with this shot, as it has been tweaked a bit in PS, but I was pleased with my focus and composition here.
Some other shots I took needed NO photoshopping... that's pretty darn exciting for me: (I did sharpen and crop).
Loving this girl. Seriously. We've discussed my passion for all thing kid-feet, right?
And not technically the best picture, but it does include all my kids.
Funny: they're color coordinated. Not planned as Abbie and Anna dressed themselves.

I love my family.

One more of him....

Playing with a funky Xprocessed thang. Think I should burn the shadowed side to make his eye indistinguishable?
Love the pink lips... mmm...

Tagged!

I was tagged by both Amy and Tammy to do the 6 Weird Things Meme, which I'm pretty sure means I HAVE TO DO IT. Oh! And Monica just tagged me too...

1. I love McDonalds food. I can't help it. I know, I know. How gross.... don't judge me!
2. I love denim... LOVE. And not to wear, necessarily. To touch. It's like my security blanket.
3. I LOATHE brushing my teeth. I think that's kinda obvious considering how much dental work I just finished. The good news is: I do it anyway!
4. I sing in the car. ALOT. To my kids... just because. And random songs too. Theme songs from the Little Mermaid, Alladin, Cinderella, TV Shows...
5. I miss my parents. Every single day.
6. I need to gain 10 pounds. I was losing lots of weight after my son was born while we were still nursing. I stopped nursing him about 2 months ago. I can't stop losing weight. I'm not even exercising/dieting. I eat disgustingly (see #1). I'm currently under 100 pounds. At this point, it's starting to become a problem. Isn't that weird!?

I'm not gonna tag anyone, because I think these are cruel.

Him.

Haven't yet posted pictures of the man. He doesn't usually sit for me. Too busy watching The Office or Heroes or something (and we totally missed the first 1/2 hour of Heroes tonight!!!) or alternatively busting his butt to get his portfolio ready for job hunting... (shhhh!!!)

So, yeah. Here's him.*sigh* Now that's HOT.

Abbie.

Day 2. A couple of my friends in my last post, commented about how grown up my nearly 5 year old is looking. Ladies, you couldn't be more right. It's really kind of shocking....

It's so wrong. And her hair is getting SO LONG. She refuses to let me cut it. But is getting better at brushing it herself. It really blows my mind to think that once upon a time she looked like this:And for those who were wondering if Abbie and Miles were cut from the same stone:
The answer is Yes. Definitely, yes.

A storyboard...

This is a storyboard highlighting my daughter's first Science Fair... IN PRESCHOOL!Click it to see full size!

Funny: When they told us about the Science Fair, I was really worried. Neither my husband or I are very "scientific." So, I asked the teacher a billion questions about what they were expecting. Well, so we show up and set up Abbie's booth. Sign and everything. Her teacher totally starts making fun of us... saying that we claim to not know anything and then there sits Abbie with the most well-prepared project of all the kids. I kindly explained to her that while science may not be our forte... we are artists, we can certainly make something LOOK GOOD! We earn high marks in presentation. Yay for us!

Ok, last one.

I'm really gonna try to feature some of my other kids. But she's just been so darn cooperative for me lately. Loving that! Here in the bathtub....

Taken with my sb600 bounced off the ceiling. So so pleased.

Perfection.

So, yesterday I talked about imperfect pictures and how they can still bring you great joy. Which brings us to the perfect pictures. The ones that make your heart sing.

I took the time to politely ask my 3 year old if she'd like to take some pictures with me. It was a kind of cold and rainy day here (overcast=my favorite!). She heartily agreed as long as I promised she could play with the umbrella.

Yield = Pictures I'm so pleased with!
(curse you blogger! giving me troubles!!!)

My husband questioned me as to why she has a booger on the side of her nose. It's not. She tripped while headed to the car today. Skinned her knee, fingers, cheek, nose, forehead and got two fat lips. Awesome trip!
Edited to add the pictures! Do you prefer the color or black and white of this one?

Love the lip biting is the next one!

Crazy face!
And one taken with the self-timer!

Imperfection.

Sometimes, you take a picture that is totally imperfect: Out of focus, poor exposure, chopped limbs in the wrong places, etc, but you just can't help yourself. It speaks to you. Thus is today's image.

Taken at the mall playplace. Anna's desperate to avoid the camera lately and my ability to capture her while still, just isn't cutting it. Crawling away as fast as possible... hence the focus on her jeans, instead of her feet... (yes, I have a bit of a foot obsession!)
And in the briefest of still moments...
And yes, I'm still waiting for my 3.5 year old to grow some serious hair.

Here's the closeup.

Ok, ok. I know that blogger posted the big picture first, putting it below this one, but whatever. Someday I'll figure this whole thing out.

The Big Picture.

I tried the Reverse Lens Macro as recommended by Betty (I think!) and it was alot of fun.... but first, here's the big picture...

It's a hurricane lantern.... one of my favorite things in my living room.... the red makes me so happy!

Feeling Better!

Kids' toes kill me.

And because I realized I hadn't shared her yet...

She's not usually willing to sit still for me. This is Anna. Backside seen in the swing on Day 1 of this picture study.

Fever, Chills, Runny Nose....

I have been under the weather (that's what I get for saying that I never get sick! Two colds in two months! UGH!!).

At any rate, it's been a sleep, eat, sleep day. Back with pictures when I get this under control!

Lashes and Orange.

Check out those amazing lashes!!! So long! He totally beats out my girls! It's truly unfair!

As you might have noticed, I love ORANGE. It's my favorite color to dress Miles in. I think it says "BOY!" more than even Blue does. Love, love, love orange!
The girls went to Target with their dad today, so Miles and I had some playtime/photo time all alone. Love this kid!

Fabulous headband brought to you by Heather.

Not mine...

Fridays are park/playgroup days. So, it's going to be a trial to keep all my Friday images from looking alike...

I guess here's one way to do it: Photograph a child that isn't mine. This is Elijah, my best friend's son. Experimenting with f/1.8... his right eye (on our left) looks pretty sharp to me!

He's such a doll!

Stop Motion!

First shots with my SB600... not the greatest, but I haven't even started to read the manual. Just charged some batteries, slapped that puppy on and went to town.

Flash bounced on the ceiling. I obviously need some work, but man, I'm loving this!

Finally!

I'm back! Thank you to everyone who was concerned. It's a kind of long story but basically I had to high-tail it to Iowa for some dental work. But it's finally done, I'm finally posting, and it's finally a picture.

And.... it's a picture of my 15mo son. He's FINALLY walking. And it's about time, I'm really getting tired of carrying that kid!

My new flash arrives tomorrow and I've got a plethora of ideas floating around in my head... so you all will be my outlet. Hope it's worth it!

Out of town.

I WILL keep up with this thing, but I had to leave town unexpectedly. No camera, no computer. But, when I get home, my brand spanking new SB600 will be waiting for me, so... yeah... I'll be playing catchup!

Thanks to all those of you who have left comments! Makes me feel awesome! I'll be checking blogs when I return as well!

January 5, 2007

A photo a day. Not an original idea, but by doing so, hoping to create an original picture (or 365).

My favorite shot from the park today. I have a ton of other favorites, but with this shot, I could really feel the movement, the glee of swinging...
