Some things Cute. Others, not so much.

You decide which is which.

06282008-5

Almost 3 months old. Still super scrawny. The kid has a great smile and those silly ears that poke out just a tad. Here's hoping hair will fix most of the poking out.

06282008-1

Have I mentioned my least favorite part about Florida? The wildlife? Ew. Ew. Ew. Biggest grasshopper I've EVER seen.

06282008-9

Yeah, I think we'll keep him. No, seriously, we will.

06282008-2

Mmm... Nothing says yum quite like chunkified milk.

06282008-12

The jury's still out on this one. For those not in the know, this is my "baby brudder", Matt. Here in Orlando on a business trip. He forced me to make three batches of cookies in the short 3 days he spent here. FORCED!

Anecdote

My children are obsessed with their heritage. They absolutely LOVE that they are 1/2 Chinese. However, it is a source of sadness and misery for them that they are 1/2 Honky-White. They lament their whiteness quite frequently.

"But I wanna be WHOLE Chinese!" For example.

I, personally, don't mind my glaring skin and propensity to burn to a crisp in this Florida sun. But whatever.

As it is summer, we've been spending alot more time in the out of doors. And while I slather my children with sunblock at every turn, their skin continues to get darker and darker. Last week, after a fabulous day at a friend's pool, I was taken aback by Abbie's appearance.

Mom: "Whoa! Abbie! You're getting SO dark! You're turning downright brown!"
Anna (who was standing nearby): "Oh!!!! You're turning WHOLE CHINESE!??!?!!!!!"

Seriously folks, it's a laugh a minute around here.

DIY.

I know I've posted pictures of this shirt before, but I had to post the full outfit. I made the babylegs from a tutorial I found online. Love them. So cute and they make diaper changes EASY.
ahoy!

Also, have I told you the story of the chair? I haven't? Well, lucky you.
the chair.

Because the new house has an upstairs (all the bedrooms) and a downstairs (all the living spaces), I desperately needed a chair to nurse in during those midnight feedings. Two days before Lucas was born, I decided what better place to walk the kid out of me than at IKEA, eh? On my way out of the store, I visited my very favorite part, AS IS. And there sat my chair. Without thinking twice, I bought it. Then I thought twice. How was I going to get this into my van?! I'm 38 weeks pregnant! Luckily, a very nice gentleman helped me hoist it on into the van.

By the time I got home, I was so excited that I immediately pulled the chair out of the van and into the house, up our stairs and into the bedroom. I figured all that exertion could only send me into labor and what a dirty shame that would be! I love this chair. It's totally perfect.

Oh, and so is he! (Did I mention he's been sleeping through the night?!!!)
cute kid, eh?

Ch... ch... ch... changes....

If you happen upon my blog tonight, please be patient. I'm no genius when it comes to editing html code, etc.

About Dad.

You all wish you had a Dad like mine.

Everyone is scared of my dad. That is, everyone who doesn't know him well. He's got a formidable presence that is sure to intimidate. It's a front. But we know better. We (his children) know that underneath that mustache (which I've never seen him without) and unwillingness to smile lies a man who loves to laugh, play games, cuddle and share quiet moments with his children. And grandchildren. A man whose quiet demeanor masks his dry wit so you can never quite tell if he's kidding or not. A man who rarely smiles in public, but can make me laugh till tears pour down my face. A father whose love for his family far outweighs his love of money. A father who knows sacrifice. A father who I love and miss.

And in celebration of my dad, I give you a picture from July 4th 2007. Playing Catch Phrase With Dad.
And I revel in the reality that I get to hang with my dad in just 18 more days!

Just so y'all know...

What we're up to.

Nothing hotter than...

A man who's not ashamed to wear his kid in a sling. Especially while playing Mario Kart on the DS. Though, he did admit that he wouldn't wear him in public. Pfsht. What a party pooper!
But at least Lucas was sound asleep and my hands were free to make dinner.
Everyone was VERY interested in Mario Kart. Which made making dinner, that much easier.

2 Months.

Or it was. June 3rd marked Lucas's 2 month birthday. The kid is a peanut. Teeny tiny. 9 pounds 10ozs at the doctor's office this morning. He continues to be the smallest kid I've birthed. And yet, a really good kid. Slept from 8p to 6a a couple nights ago. Typically, he wakes up a little earlier than that, but one feeding at 4am is a breeze.

And who says there aren't cute homemade gifts for baby boys??
I made this sweet onesie for him yesterday. I absolutely loved how it turned out. Definitely going to try some other designs... a dinosaur for sure. And in case you needed a close up.

Oh. Hi There!

9 times out of 10, if a picture is snapped of me, it's bound to never see the light of blog.

Imagine my surprise, when I pulled these off my camera.
All snapped (at my request) by Matt.

Raise your hand if you knew I had freckles...

Signs they've taken over.

The children, that is. They obviously outnumber Matt & I, so it's only fitting that our house is not our own (don't tell them that!)

Exhibit A: The Bookcase

Notice the following:
  • Diapers - in bulk. For both Miles and Lucas. See, the bedrooms are upstairs and I haven't found a cute basket to stick diaper changing supplies for the downstairs in yet... but I hate running upstairs for a diaper. I'm lazy.
  • Calvin & Hobbes compilations as literature. Abbie LOVES them.
  • Crayons stashed as a quick-grab for church or other outings.
Exhibit B - The Yard:
All found in the planting bed in the backyard:
  • 4 Whiffle Balls
  • A deflated Earth globe from National Geographic
  • 2 Frisbees - at least one of which is broken.
  • The Sprinkler which I did not put there.
  • A cup. Why is there a cup outside? I have no earthly clue. I took this picture, and then walked away, the cup is still there. I'm an excellent parent. Yes.
  • What you will not find in our planting beds... plants that I planted.
Exhibit C - The Dining Room
Explanation:
Because we have a bar for the kids to eat at, we rarely eat at the table together. Matt and I either stand and eat in the kitchen with the kids, or eat by ourselves in the dining room. Not the best arrangement, but when your dining room has brand new carpet (don't get me started on the absurdity of carpeting in dining areas), there just aren't many options. So, basically the dining room table is the kids' craft table. There are almost always crayons, paper, coloring books, scissors, etc covering the table. It's almost not worth putting away since they'll just be getting it back out again.

Normally, I don't mind the ever-present child clutter. But today it's making me want to hide in a closet in the fetal position and rock back and forth until I can't remember my own name. Yes, it's been one of THOSE days.

Can your 6 year old do this?

I just needed to brag on Abbie for a minute.

I hate to admit this, but she's likely to put me out of business someday. When asked what she'd like to be when she grows up, her response is a resounding, "A photography!" Yes, despite having corrected her approximately 25 times, it's "a photography." But she's actually quite good! I have no hesitations about handing my $1000+ camera/lens over to her. Alright, that is a lie. I have slight hesitations, but so far, she's very careful and I should just let the evidence of her obviously inherited talent (yuk yuk...) speak for itself. She took these for me today:
By the way, that's the sling I MADE!
And the perfect timing of this next one makes me want to blow it up big. Or at least change my blog banner.

Matt says, "A camera that expensive should make anyone look like a professional." Well, "ppppbbbbllllt" to you!
